Banksville Records presenta: Weather Underground, il nuovo disco dei S.A.D.O.

Dall’incontro delle personalità musicali dei S.A.D.O. con quelle letterarie degli scrittori Guido Michelone e di Franz Krauspenhaar nasce questo nuovo lavoro. Si tratta di un concept album anomalo, in quanto unisce 25 brani di varia durata a parti recitate, pubblicato in formato DOPPIO CD per consentirne fruizione bilingue. I due supporti, pur contenendo lo stesso programma musicale, si differenziano: uno per le parti recitate in lingua italiana (con la voce dello stesso Guido Michelone) e l’altro per la versione in lingua inglese (con la voce di Stevn Thomas). L’attore Giovanni Battista Franco, parte integrante e insostituibile dell’organico S.A.D.O. ormai da tempo, recita in ambo le lingue la propria parte. 

La prefazione al disco, sul retro di copertina, recita: “A story of love and war”. Una storia di amore e di guerra liberamente tratta della vicenda realmente avvenuta di Weather Underground, una discussa organizzazione di stampo sovversivo che ebbe vita negli anni ’70 negli Stati Uniti d’America. Considerato dagli storici un gruppo terroristico anomalo (non vi fu mai nessuna vittima a seguito dei loro attentati per la scrupolosa tempestività nel comunicarne ora e luogo), si batteva per i propri ideali attentando con ordigni esplosivi a strutture istituzionali (come il Pentagono o il quartier generale della polizia di New York) per sensibilizzare l’opinione pubblica su temi specifici, come la sterilizzazione forzata delle donne povere o più semplicemente la guerra in Vietnam.

Questo disco, tuttavia, prende drasticamente le distanze da qualunque schieramento ideologico (attitudine ampiamente superata e pertanto avulsa dalla filosofia di tutti i lavori dei S.A.D.O.) sottolieando invece l’aspetto puramente umano della vicenda, descrivendo delle persone che, credendo nei propri princìpi, erano disposte a giocarsi tutto per essi, “giusti” o “sbagliati" che fossero i metodi usati (questione morale come insieme di variabili soggettive pure). Né giudizi né ideologie in questo disco dunque, solo affreschi di stati emotivi e passioni umane. 

Ogni brano rappresenta in qualche modo un episodio realmente avvenuto, anche se la parte strettamente musicale porta titoli autonomi e apparentemente slegati dalla vicenda. Le musiche sono state suonate in presa diretta in una unica sessione con l’aggiunta di copiose sovraincisioni successive. La definizione storico-genetica della musica dei S.A.D.O. sarebbe: "musica creativa ed improvvisata europea" ma loro preferiscono "avanguardia decostruttiva". Il gruppo, nell'atto creativo, effettua alla propria musica un processo di decostruzione ma giammai di redifinizione della medesima. Pertanto, dal punto di vista strettamente musicale, sono facilmente riconoscibili momenti di vera rottura rispetto agli schemi classici dei molteplici stili affrontati (seppur più blandamente rispetto ai lavori precedenti del gruppo) come ad esempio l’utilizzo del latrato come sostituto del classico assolo o l’uso creativo dei sintetizzatori con settaggi davvero estremi, al limite del paradosso.

Banksville Records presents: Weather Underground, S.A.D.O.'s new album.

This new work arises from the meeting of S.A.D.O.'s personalities with the more literary personalities of Guido Michelone and Franz Krauspenhaar. It's an unusual concept album, as it combines music with an acted part, and it will be released as a DOUBLE CD, to allow a bilingual experience. Even though both media contain the same music plan, one includes spoken parts in Italian (through the voice of Guido Michelone), while the other features spoken parts in English (by Stevn Thomas). The actor Giovanni Battista Franco, an integral element of the group for a long time now, performs in both versions, playing his part in both languages.

The album's preface, on the package's back, reads the following: "A story of love and war loosely based on an actually occurred event". Weather Underground is the name of a famous subversive organization come to life in the Seventies in the United States of America. Being considered an "unusual" terrorist group (no victims were ever made by their assaults, due to the meticulous punctuality in notifying the time and the place), they fought for causes which they regarded as utopias for a better world, such as their blame on forced sterilization of poor women or, more simply, their complaint against the war in Vietnam. The vision in accomplishing this project keeps far from any political beliefs, a widely outmoded concept in S.A.D.O.'s philosophy, in an attempt, on the contrary, to underline the human aspect of the matter, when it comes to people who believed in a cause and who were willing to put their own life at stake for it, no matter whether their methods were fair or not. Therefore, this album contains no morals or ideology, just frescoes of human emotions. Each track depicts a true story in some way, but the more strictly musical component includes self sufficient titles, not bound, at times, to the general event. The music has been recorded live in a single session, with the addition of several subsequent overdubs.

Even though the historic-genetic definition of S.A.D.O.'s music would be "creative and extemporary European music", they would rather choose "deconstructionist avant-garde". During the creative act, the group's music goes through a deconstruction process, which, though, is never a redefinition process. Therefore, from the strictly musical point of view, some instances of a true break with classical schemes can be easily noticed in the manifold styles they deal with (even if more mildly than in their previous works), such as the use of barking replacing the classical solo or the use of synthesizers with truly extreme settings, almost on the verge of paradox..

Banksville Records presenta MALTEMPO, il disco del ritorno discografico di Sorella Maldestra, celebre band punk-rock che fra gli anni 70 ed 80 segnò fortemente la scena alternativa insieme, fra gli altri, a Skiantos, Windopen, Joe Squillo, Camerini, Windopen e Gaznevada, negli anni dei Sex Pistols e della Bologna caput mundi, citati da Federico Guglielmi come una delle 10 indispensabili band punk italiane. (PUNK, di Federico Guglielmi, Edizioni Giunti, 2007). Il vinile del primo disco (Cadavere), uscito per la storica Harpo’s Bazar, è oggi oggetto da collezione.
Oggi, dopo quasi 30 anni da Cadavere, Sorella Maldestra torna in studio per registrare un disco tutto nuovo, con nuove idee e nuovo entusiasmo con la line-up delle origini, fatta eccezione per il bassista Vittorio Ranghino ed il batterista Paolo Baltaro, che ricopre anche il ruolo di produttore.
Il risultato è Maltempo, un disco che non rinnega in nessun modo il passato, anzi ne esalta le qualità utilizzando l’esperienza maturata dai musicisti, perche di musica, in altri progetti negli anni di vacanza da Sorella Maldestra, non hanno mai smesso di produrne.

Maltempo è un disco scomodo. Non è una rimpatriata e non è la celebrazione fine a se stessa di antiche istanze punk. Maltempo è formato da 12 brani scritti quasi interamente per l’occasione ed esprime lo stato d’animo del gruppo nei confronti di tematiche decisamente attuali, affrontate senza reinventarsi linguaggi stilistici perchè nuove sono già le idee, le motivazioni, le realtà personali, le cose del quitidiano, nel serio e nel faceto. E tanto basta.
Il suono e l’approccio di Sorella Maldestra è pertanto rimasto intatto, attualizzato dalle moderne strumentazioni valvolari e valorizzato dalle nuove tecniche di registrazione analogico-digitali, con chitarre devastanti e testi da amare alla follia o da odiare sgomenti, senza vie di mezzo. "DO NOT DISTURB", the new record of MHMM, is defined from the creators themselves as a "Blues Core" record, with the intention of re-defining the typical language of rock-blues with their personal style. Mhmm Blues Band consists of: Paolo Baltaro, Gianni Opezzo, Sandro Marinoni e Boris Savoldelli, whom have already been together in the Arcansiel (4 records, Contempo Records, Mellow Records and Musea) and in the Sado (Btf - Ams Records).

The record sees many guests as Kiko Cioccoloni, Roger Balfour, Barbara Rubin, Luigi Ranghino and  Mitch Maloney. Recorded between Vercelli (Kmp Castle Studios) and London (KinkyMalinky Studios) "Do Not Disturb" has been produced by Paolo Baltaro and arranged by Paolo Baltaro and Gianni Opezzo. Songs are preceded by the voice of Londoner Roger Balfour, who leads the listener to the idea of a concept album set in a smoky bar between whiskey and beer, where he describes occasional customers from behind his bar.

La definizione storico-genetica della musica dei SADO sarebbe: "musica creativa ed improvvisata europea" ma loro preferiscono "avanguardia decostruttiva".
Il gruppo, nell'atto creativo, effettua alla propria musica un processo di decostruzione ma giammai di redifinizione della medesima in quanto nell'ambito di una filosofia dell'arte sarebbe una tragedia  anche solo pensare di volerlo fare (nella notte della sordità concettuale i campanacci di tutte le mucche sono muti...peggio della formula di Moles).
Ispirati Bretonianamente dall’immagine fono-acustica della ‘langue’ wittgensteiniana -vissuta in questo caso come puro insieme di sintagmi-, essi giustappongono alle tesi di essa delle ‘sillogi di note’ che rap-presentano la pura evenemenzialità del tema musicale come mera sintesi meccanica e storica di simboli, atmosfere e tecnica, di contro a tutte le sovra- e substrutture sintattiche e semantiche ad esso solitamente associate.

Sado is a side-project by some of the members of the renowned band Arcansiel, but this project is miles away from the easy-listening neoprog sound of this band, as Sado lies somewhere in between the more aggressive spirit of Area (especially fo what the stunning vocal experimentations by Boris Savoldelli concern), the happy nonsense of Picchio dal Pozzo and some weird and spacey psychedelia.
The historical-genetic definition of The SADO’s music would be : “ creative music and European improvised tune” but they prefer “ deconstructive avant-gard”. The group, in their creative action, carry out a de-constructive process of their music, never a re-definition of the same since such an idea, within an artistic philosophy, would be unthinkable (in the night of conceptual deafness all cows' cowbells are dumb...even worse than Moles’ formula).
They are inspired by the Bretonian phono-acoustic image of Wittgenstein’s ‘langue’ seen, in this case, as a pure whole of syntagma, they juxtapose to its thesis some “note sylloges” that represent the pure “evenemenzialità” of a tune considered as a simple mechanic and historical synthesis of symbols, atmospheres, and technique opposed to all syntactical and semantic complications and sub- structures that are usually associated to it

ARCANSIEL is an Italian Progressive rock band, which has released three albums between 1988 and 1994: "Four Daisies", "Still Searching" & "Normality Of Perversion". Published today on the Musea label, "Swimming In The Sand - The Best-Of 1988-2004" can be considered as a compilation, except for the fact that the musicians have re-recorded the selected tracks. This makes a big difference ! This music is a particular mix of influences, MARILLION's neo Progressive seems to be the major component of it. Yet, they haven't forgotten about the Seventies and symphonism, so much appreciated by Italian music lovers. The shadow of GENESIS is sometimes very present, as well as the blend of the traditional Progressive rock music featured by PREMIATA FORNERIA MARCONI and BANCO DEL MUTUO SOCCORSO. The excellent and very charismatic singer Paolo BALTARO offers some remarkably intensive interpretations. As far as the music is concerned, it alternates between direct melodies and complex instrumental developments, and is particularly fond of flute, saxophone or violin parts. We can also note the presence of an epic song lasting 20 minutes, which is remarkable in this field. Thanks to this new sound which is true to its music, ARCANSIEL is just waiting to be rediscovered...

ARCANSIEL est une formation transalpine de rock Progressif, ayant produit trois albums entre 1988 et 1994: "Four Daisies", "Still Searching" & "Normality Of Perversion". Publié aujourd'hui sur le label Musea, "Swimming In The Sand - The Best-Of 1988-2004" peut être considéré comme une compilation, à la différence près que les musiciens ont pris la peine de réenregistrer les morceaux sélectionnés. Ce qui change tout ! Cette musique est un mélange particulier d'influences, le neo Progressif de MARILLION semblant devoir en être la composante majeure. Les années soixante-dix et le symphonisme tellement cher aux Italiens ne sont pas oubliés pour autant. L'ombre de GENESIS est parfois très présente, tout comme la marque du rock Progressif traditionnel représenté par PREMIATA FORNERIA MARCONI et BANCO DEL MUTUO SOCCORSO. Gli Arcansiel sono una formazione musicale Neoprogressive fondata dal tastierista Marco Galletti nel 1986, e considerati tra i fondatori in Italia del genere. E' del 1987 il primo lavoro discografico, FOUR DAISIES a cui segue STILLSEARCHING nel 1989. Gabriel Delta & The Hurricanes music is very powerful: Blues is mixed with Latin rhythm, funky, swing, jump and R&B, so that their very exciting show becomes a real party. The universality of the Blues is thus proven: Gabriel uses the Blues as a language.
 

Gabriel Delta è un musicista giovane ma instancabile, tenace ma dotato di grande sensibilità che manifesta anche in qualità di ambasciatore della Associazione della Gioventù Indigena Argentina, alla quale viene devoluta parte del ricavato proveniente dalla vendita del CD; scelta l'Italia come seconda patria, fà base in quel di Vercelli, Gabriel lo abbiamo visto scorazzare un pò tutti per i festival estivi italiani, dove ha proposto un set infuocato a base di una miscela di blues - da power-trio, e di ritmi latini, retaggio indiscusso delle sue origini Argentine; Kusiwan è espressione di questa piacevole dicotomia; c'è una netta transizione tra l'attacco Santaneggiante della traccia iniziale "Amores" e lo slow-blues di "Volvere por ti"; ma il blend è ancora più evidente nel bel strumentale "Juu-Jaa" traccia costantemente in bilico tra una scansione rock-blues e la melodia latina; Kusiwan è comunque un lavoro ricco di sapori blues, il boogie di "Love Train" e la cavalcata hero di "Blues don't hurt me" ne sono evidenti esempi; tuttavia vi confesso che le incursioni latine sono quelle che mi hanno colpito diritto nel cuore.  Gianandrea Pasquinelli.  Bluestime.it

Gabriel Delta, originating from Argentina, started his musical career in 1988. But it was only in 2003 that, together with his friend/drummer Fernando "el Conejo", he formed his band 'The Hurricanes'. With over 200 gigs a year, they are certainly not unloved. Their newest album is called 'Kusiwan', an expression in Quechua, a language that is spoken in parts of South America and it means: "Let's live our life with cheerfulness and decision". Isn't that not a noble thought! You can describe their music quite easily: Latin American Blues, meaning, blues music mixed with Latin-American influences, but in this case interlarded with funk, swing, jump and rhythm & blues. If you ask me, these are the perfect ingredients to provide us with a real varied playlist. It starts with the first track 'Amores', a very energetic song which sets the tone for a great album. The hoarse voice (only once slightly off tune) as well as the inventive guitar work of Gabriel are assets to the album. There are a lot of energetic songs on 'Kusiwan', like the worked up and also instrumental 'Juu-Jaa' and the cosy 'Where Are You Goin?'. But Gabriel can play slowly as well, e.g. the ballad 'Volvere Por Ti' and the slow blues 'Blues Don't Hurt Me'. Also Gabriel's rhythm section has lots of craftsmanship in store, which means that this CD really is worth your while.

I Toxic Poison nascono nell'Agosto 2000. Lo stile del gruppo ,in partenza, è un mix tra trhash metal e nù-metal. Nel 2002 viene pubblicato il promo autoprodotto NOTHING'S FOREVER contenente 8 brani. Nel Marzo 2002 la band realizza il suo primo video "Rebellion Song" trasmesso in rotazione da ROCK TV. A Giugno dello stesso anno vincono la rassegna nazionale TENDENZE 2002 , alla presenza di 4000 persone. La promozione di "Nothing's Forever" vede il gruppo impegnato in numerosi concerti nei più importanti locali del nord e centro Italia, accompagnando ,inoltre, come special guest il tour italiano dei LACUNA COIL. All'inizio del 2003 il brano "Hate" viene pubblicato sulla compilation Americana "THE HARDER, THE BETTER: VOLUME 4" edita dalla label  TURKEY VULTURE RECORDS. Grazie a questa compilation i Toxic Poison ricevono l’interesse del produttore americano Billy Milano. Il resto dell'anno viene impegnato per la composizione di un nuovo progetto. Progetto che vede la luce nel dicembre 2004 per BANKSVILLE RECORDS  dal titolo "COLD HATE HOT BLOOD”e arriva vendere oltre 2000 copie. Dal 2005 al 2007  il gruppo è impegnato in un’intensa attività live .Nel 2008 i Toxic Poison si ritrovano con una nuova formazione: ad ALO (guitar) e TEO (bass e vocal), membri originari della band, si aggiungono PIT (drum) e Marco (vocal) dando vita ad un nuovo progetto musicale che prende una piega più Hard rock ( con diverse influenze).Terminata tutta la fase di produzione del nuovo cd “THE BEAST IS BACK” i Toxic Poison promuoveranno l’album con un tour europeo per tutto il 2010 .

Musica concreta che non lascia spazio ai miei frequenti viaggi trasognati, del resto il metal è pura materia, lo senti nelle mani, non nei brividi. In "Cold Hate Hot Blood" si trovano i Sepultura come i Soulfly, nu-metal e tagli sferzanti di voce brutale e rocciosa, ma anche linee vocali più morbide e chitarre più melodiche; percorrendo le varie tracce si scoprono sapidi intrecci sonori costruiti traendo spunti da tendenze varie, ma è il metallo che comanda, con una batteria solida ed efficace che sottolinea con gusto passaggi leggeri ed è, soprattutto, puro granito nei pezzi più tesi.

INSANOLOGY is the first solo album by Boris Savoldelli, an experimental project with vocals only.
The CD has been recorded using a looper-machine. Insanology find its basis, for the writing process, on a "mantric" idea of the songs, where the endless repetition of short armonic and rhythm pieces, overlap one on the other, in a delicate and complex equilibrium rythminc-armonic, and build the song.
This new CD is distributed from BTF and is enriched by important international guest. The american icon MARK MURPHY decided to offer one of his unreleased tracks to Boris:"In the seventh year" is the song and was rearranged for vacals only by the italian contemporary music composer Federico Troncatti. Also the american guitarist Marc Ribot played on two tracks. Boris is one of the great undiscovered proponents of simply superb

Partiamo dalle novità salienti dei nuovi ARCANSIEL: come abbiamo già avuto modo di anticipare, non c'è più il vecchio cervello del gruppo, ovvero Marco Galletti. L'attuale mente (almeno a giudicare dalle note del booklet) si chiama Paolo Baltaro, titolare delle parti di tastiera, basso e vocali (ma solo in un pezzo). Il nuovo cantante si chiama invece Paolo Carboni ed il suo modo di esprimersi fa intuire che provenga dall'ambiente hard rock; al suo attivo dobbiamo però registrare un bel timbro vocale che viene messo all'attenzione dell'ascoltatore fin dal primo pezzo dal titolo chilometrico "The girl from heaven and the wolf don't care if you are glad to live". L'ignaro che si troverà ad ascoltare questo brano con ancora nelle orecchie la suite di "Stillsearching" rimarrà come minimo scioccato (almeno quanto lo sono rimasto io) da queste atmosfere che oscillano continuamente tra l'AOR, il funky, il Prog, con coretti femminili in abbondanza ed altre situazioni che possono far storcere il naso. Ma cerchiamo di analizzare la musica che ci propongono oggi gli ARCANSIEL con orecchio critico: come dicevo, nelle 5 composizioni (specialmente la lunga "Holy wolf suite") ci troviamo di fronte ad un continuo mutare di situazioni, alcune anche strampalate (in senso buono), il tutto ad assecondare una pazzia creativa che possiamo riscontrare in gruppi come... 12TH NIGHT (vedi "We are sane" e "The collector") o GENTLE GIANT. Non voglio dire che la musica di quest'album assomiglia a quella di queste due bands, ma... meditate gente, meditate.

The wonderful epic "I'm Still Searching" holds every aspect of prog that pleases me : nice vocal harmonies, great musicianship of course, subtle and light instrumental passages, very powerful keys, a touch of fantasy with some pleasant sax which will lead to a jewel of a song. Well, it is actually a piece of over than TWENTY minutes. And extremely pleasant ones. It is a bit of a shame that this band does not have more exposure on PA. Almost no review for none of their album while "Arcansiel" truely deserves some attention. I tell you : at the time of release, this album is far much better than any which the Italian prog dinosaurs produced. Do not remain in doubt. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed. There are of course some Genesis-like moments ("Trespass", "Foxtrot" with "Supper's Ready" flavour). But like in their first release there won't be any obvious attempt to sound as Gabriel. The similarity will remain in the musical parts. Not the great riff or solo ones. No, Arcansiel plays in the division of the subtle and sweet ones. And I just believe it is great. You'll have to listen to these good and gentle sax parts here. Do it and tell what your feelings are. I am absolutely found of the mood of this track. Beautiful music, I tell you. Even brilliant.The remaining parts of this album are of course under the shadow of this superb symphonic track. "Angel of March" is more on the harder edge, fully neo-prog. The song is repetitive almost during its whole lenght. Only the last two minutes will bring some variety. Again, great sax part. Very pleasant song. The rock ballad "Your Only Treasure" has a catchy melody and, again, the duo sax / guitar is just great. But I guess that this is just what prog is all about : provide EMOTIONS (I guess you already know that I am found of these...). The closing number sounds pretty much like an ... IQ song but you'll have to add again some great sax breaks to get the full picture. I like this album very much and I will rate it with four stars. It is definitely their best album and I strongly recommend it to you. (www.progarchives.com)

Riarangià nasceva da un’idea artistica di Roberto Sbaratto e Cinzia Ordine, con il pianista Luigi Ranghino, il polistrumentista Paolo Baltaro, il saxofonista Claudio Bianzino, il contrabbassista Stefano Profeta e il batterista Claudio Saveriano. L’idea era quella di omaggiare Vercelli e il suo territorio con la tradizione musicale e letteraria di Vercelli guardata con un occhio nuovo e, in un certo senso, rivisitata. Allora il progetto fu accolto con entusiasmo dal presidente dell’Anffas cittadina, Giorgio Guala, che insieme a Provincia e Comune di Vercelli sovrintese alla realizzazione di un cd il ricavato della cui vendita andò proprio in offerta all’Associazione. In sostanza, il progetto prevedeva di recuperare brani musicali, poesie e testimonianze letterarie del repertorio dialettale vercellese: quelli legati per lo più ai “Celti” e al ricordo di Cesare Filippone, ma anche a Trino, patria fiorente di cantanti, compositori e poeti.Lo spirito “jazzistico” messo in campo dai musicisti, amanti della rivisitazione e della variazione, ha ritradotto ritmicamente canzoni che ancora restano nella memoria di molti: Oh che sità, Oh Signùr, Quand ‘i s’éva giùvu, Il tombarello, Giêubi, Pùvra ‘d rìs, La cà da rat, Ma la vita la gira. I brani musicali sono stati introdotti e, in qualche modo, completati da poesie e prose dei vercellesi Pino De Maria, Elena Carasso, Francesco Leale e del trinese Angelo Varvelli recitate e narrate dalla voce di Roberto Sbaratto, che è anche l’esecutore canoro dei brani musicali.

“La Differanza” was released in 2001 as the second SADO’s record. This is the 10^th anniversary edition, specially remixed for free download by Banksville Records Creative Commons Division.  You'll not find this record anywhere else, it is not for sale on shops or web mailorders. It's free, for Sado's fans only! An early work of SADO but still very representative of the band. Based on Jaques Derrida’s “Difference” notion. Jacques Derrida begins the essay “Différance” (perhaps the most systematic articulation of the non-concept that, according to Derrida, he “ha[s] been able to utilize” in previous works) by talking about the letter a and trying to explain (though not justify; instead perform an “insistent intensification of its play”) the neologism that he developed. In the first few paragraphs of the essay, he talks about writing and how the neologism (“neographism” he calls it) is “a lapse in the discipline and law” of that system, a sort of disruption in writing and, if I may add, in language and the order of signs in general. Sado’s “LA DIFFERANZA” follows this scheme, nothing more, nothing less. With Paolo Baltaro, Sandro Marinoni, Diego Marzi and Boris Savoldelli. .

Facendo riferimento al concetto di decostruzione che Derrida (caposcuola del Decostruzionismo) esprime, ed in particolare al convetto di "DIFFERANZA" (titolo del cd) per cui, in lingua francese, "difference" e "differance" si pronunciano nel medesimo modo NON mostrando di essere due "cose" diverse, i SADO esprimono con linguaggio apparentemente classico (quello "uguale" a quello del free) i loro concetti in "modo" totalmente non "uguale" ad esso.
